How to configure current SQL high availability cluster using mirroring with dedicated replication NICS?

$

We have a current HA cluster at center1 which is mirrored to another HA cluster in center2.   We have several instances already installed and working which are using one NIC for data and replication.  We want to prevent mirror failovers by configuring a NIC on a replication network which has no DNS server.   What are the steps to configure the current SQL instances to use this dedicated NIC for mirror replication?

Managing the Principle and Mirrored DB's across 2 Servers.

We have mirroring set up across 2 servers with a witness server.  A1, A2 and W1 respectively.  We have 16 Databases.  Can half of the DB's on A1 be the Principle, while A2 is the Principle for the other half?   Basically I want to understand if I can sort of balance the DB's across the 2 servers.  Some DB's being Principle on A1 and others on A2.

Mirror is disconnected - Connection attempt failed with error: 10060

Hi

I have two sql servers using Database Mirroring. there servers are located on different datacenters . there is no witness so it is an async replication.

Today we had issues with the network connection so DBM was going up and down for a while until it got disconnected.

The WAN link is fully up now but DBM did not resume this time.

The error message on the primary is :

Database mirroring connection error 2 'Connection attempt failed with error: '10060(A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)'.' for 'TCP://SERVER_DR.mydomain.net:5022'.

I tried PING and TELNET(to the endpoint port 5022) from the Secondary box to the Primary and the other way and that works. I even restarted the Secondary but the connection is still down.

I don't want to reboot the primary so I am asking for ideas to try

Thanks

HI All

Today I setup first time DB mirroring for vCenter application, during failover my application vCenter not able to connect. During investigation I found my listener port is different on both nodes (Principal 5022) and (Mirror 5023). Please suggest if differe port can fail my failover test.

Getting below error -sql server error:- 2146893022 SQL Server native client  10.0 sql server network vcenter.

Please help me and give your valuable suggestion, its bit urgent.

Maximum Number of Mirrored Databases Decreases as Number of Available Cores Increases?

Hi,

I wonder if you can help me. We're planning a large in-house mirroring deployment and are concerned we may (at some point) run into the limits described in the following KB article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2001270/en-gb.

Based on the formulas contained within the above article, I knocked up a quick spreadsheet to see how increasing the number of cores might allow us to increase the number of mirrored databases. However, to my surprise, my calculations imply that as you increase the number of cores, the number of databases you can potentially mirror decreases?

Am I missing something here? Have a miscalculated somewhere? This seems counterintuitive.

Cannot remove Mirroring due to Error 3456? SQL 2012

I have a database that was a mirrored partner and went into suspended state. (Mirror Server was shut down).

I took the principal database out of mirroring using SSMS. But now I am unable to restore the mirror database so that I can set up the mirroring again.

When I run ALTER DATABASE X SET PARTNER OFF on the Mirror, SQL logs Error 3456 (Could not redo log record)

When I run RESTORE on this database from a backup - SQL tells me I cannot because the database is involved in mirroring.

Is there any other way to drop this database safely? I cannot take it offline and cannot delete it for the same reasons. It seems I cannot remove mirroring on the Mirror, for some reason. Thank you

Incorrect Alert Raised: Connection With Mirror Lost WHEN state change was to Syncrhonizing

$

Observations:

  1.       Strange / Incorrect Alert Recordings
    1.       As can be seen from the Screenshots in the Word Document – the Windows Event Log reported a TCP/IP Connection Failure
    2.      The Alert is set to monitor a State of 6 “Connection with Mirror Lost”
    3.       The Mirror monitor however shows that there was a state change but change was as follows:
      1. i.     06:00 – State = Synchronized
      2. ii.     06:03 to 06:07 – State = Synchronizing
      3. iii.     06:08 Onwards – State = Synchronized
    4.      NO “Mirror Lost” State in the Mirror Monitor
  2.       The AppLog SP Cleanup ran at that time – as can be seen by the Negative Growth in Table Size at 06:00

Possibilities:

  1.       The Mirror Connection Lost Alert was incorrectly trigger by a State Change (Synchronized to Synchronizing to Synchronized)
  2.       The Transaction Log Backlog was 8MB at the time of the Alert
  3.       The SSMS connection to the Mirror at the time of the Alerts as active and operational
  4.       The Mirror Monitor showed the State to be “Synchronizing” and NOT Lost

Thanks Howard Diesel

I have a Word Document with all the screenshots - not sure how to attach

Hello,

If we want to use SQL availability groups and have the secondary used only for reporting purposes and not DR, do we still need to use the Windows clustering?

Thanks,

Different Drive Structure Between Principal and Mirror

$

We havea 2-node (active/active) cluster with four failover instances installed. We use a dedicated drive for data files, one for log files and one for tempdb per instance .Predicting that we will be adding more instances in the future, we realized that we would run out of drive letters to set up. We intend to switch over and use mounted volumes instead that way we only use 1 drive letter per instance and will be able to add many more failover instances in the future. However, seen as we have over 150 databases across all current instances, reconfiguring the cluster drive setup will require a lot of time and work and is not in the immediate plans for our team (me :( ). I need to mirror as many databases as possible, based on priority, to a DR server on a geographically remote location. Since this server isn't setup with SQLServer yet, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have the DR server set up with mount volumes now and establish mirroring between our production environment and the DR server that way so that at least half the battle is won. I am aware that the best practice for mirroring is to have the same drive structure between the principal and mirror server, however it is not a requirement. The only example issue I have seen with this set up is when you add a data file to a database and the DDL statements get sent over to the mirror and will fail since the drive setup will not be the same. This is something I am willing to deal with since adding data files to our databases is not something we do often, or at all. As new databases are added and mirrored, the WITH MOVE clause of the RESTORE statement can be used to place the files in their correct location in the mirror server.

Other than this, are there any other things to consider for this kind of mirroring set up?

While accessing to an .mdf file, I receive this: MyFileName.mdf is not a primary database file. Does it mean the file is corrupted?

Please help in repairing this file. I heard about some manual tricks to fix SQL database corruption, but I'm not aware of it.
